COVID-19 Vaccine Has Arrived at ISL!

To our ISL family of Residents, Associates, and their Families ~

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and found a way to relax, eat some good food and spend time with loved ones (even if it was virtually).  I know that COVID-19 has brought so many challenges this year, and no doubt affected how you celebrated the past couple of weeks. I wanted to share some positive news with you that shows there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel in fighting this virus.

Shavano Park Senior Living in Texas is officially the first ISL community to receive the vaccine! The photo below is of Julie McCarty, the community’s Executive Director, receiving her dose.

We are so excited to be in the first phase of vaccine distribution for our residents and associates. Our incredible support Team worked around the clock to enroll our communities in the program with CVS or Walgreens to ensure the vaccine will be available to our associates and residents at on-site clinics conducted in our community. We expect even more clinics to be scheduled in the coming weeks, and we will be sure to reach out as soon as we have confirmed dates.

I want to take this time to encourage all residents and associates to get the FDA-authorized vaccine when your community is eligible. Learn more about the rigorous testing the vaccines have undergone on the CDC’s website here:

This news certainly provides some much-needed hope as we head into 2021!

When the novel coronavirus first swept the United States in late March and April, the pandemic raised fears about vulnerabilities for independent living, but this part of the senior housing continuum has so far proven resilient.

Sales and marketing teams have adapted to the new environment and tailored their marketing campaigns, striking a balance between the lifestyle independent living offers with the daily reality of the Covid-19 landscape, Integral Senior Living President and CEO Collette Gray told Senior Housing News.

“We’re not shying away from the fact that this is our reality right now,” she said.

Living a Vibrant Life® While Staying Safe

As you all know, all of our communities have been taking extra precautions to ensure that COVID-19 does not enter our communities. While this does mean that we have put protocols into place such as social distancing and limiting visitors, it doesn’t mean that we’ve stopped having fun with our residents!

Our Vibrant Life® program is meant to enhance and enrich our residents’ lives through seven core components: be inspired, be well, be challenged, be adventurous, be family, be social and be connected. Some of these components typically look a little different than they have in recent months, but we are proud of the work our associates are doing to help our residents live vibrant lives.

Here are just a few of the things our wonderful communities have been up to while still following recommendations from the CDC and local health departments:

  • Writing letters to their family members
  • Watching movies together and holding book clubs – sitting six feet apart, of course!
  • Playing bingo while maintaining social distancing (pictured)
  • Delivering delicious, home-style meals to residents in their apartments
  • Enjoying happy hour – a glass of wine helps, right?

We’re lucky to have so many supportive families asking how they can keep in touch with their loved ones. We’ve been encouraging them to “visit” via FaceTime, Skype, phone calls, cards and letters. These items may seem small, but they mean the world to our residents!

We’d also like to thank our families who are doing their part to keep the virus out of our communities by not visiting their loved ones. We know this is really hard, but it’s what’s best for our residents.

Our amazing associates and residents are rolling with the punches as we all navigate through the uncertainty that has come along with COVID-19. We will continue to work together, as a family, to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. Get the latest updates about COVID-19 here:
