Living a Vibrant Life® While Staying Safe

As you all know, all of our communities have been taking extra precautions to ensure that COVID-19 does not enter our communities. While this does mean that we have put protocols into place such as social distancing and limiting visitors, it doesn’t mean that we’ve stopped having fun with our residents!

Our Vibrant Life® program is meant to enhance and enrich our residents’ lives through seven core components: be inspired, be well, be challenged, be adventurous, be family, be social and be connected. Some of these components typically look a little different than they have in recent months, but we are proud of the work our associates are doing to help our residents live vibrant lives.

Here are just a few of the things our wonderful communities have been up to while still following recommendations from the CDC and local health departments:

  • Writing letters to their family members
  • Watching movies together and holding book clubs – sitting six feet apart, of course!
  • Playing bingo while maintaining social distancing (pictured)
  • Delivering delicious, home-style meals to residents in their apartments
  • Enjoying happy hour – a glass of wine helps, right?

We’re lucky to have so many supportive families asking how they can keep in touch with their loved ones. We’ve been encouraging them to “visit” via FaceTime, Skype, phone calls, cards and letters. These items may seem small, but they mean the world to our residents!

We’d also like to thank our families who are doing their part to keep the virus out of our communities by not visiting their loved ones. We know this is really hard, but it’s what’s best for our residents.

Our amazing associates and residents are rolling with the punches as we all navigate through the uncertainty that has come along with COVID-19. We will continue to work together, as a family, to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. Get the latest updates about COVID-19 here: https://isl-updates.com/updates/

Opening a senior living facility during a pandemic

When it comes to opening a new senior living community amid the uncertainty of COVID-19, flexibility and web-based tours are a must, according to operators who have done so.

“We faced several new challenges with the pandemic that we hadn’t when opening other communities in our portfolio,” said Jeffery Smith, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Integral Senior Living. The operator has opened three new communities since the pandemic began, including a 62-unit luxury assisted living and memory care community this month in Knoxville, TN.

Phoenix couple married at Mariposa Point so grandmother could attend

Originally unable to attend her granddaughter’s wedding due to the ongoing pandemic, Joyce Flaherty had a front-row view thanks to her senior living community, Mariposa Point at Algodón Center.

The community arranged for the wedding ceremony of Jen Schroeder, Flaherty’s granddaughter, and Felipe Eniguez to be held in its scenic courtyard. Out of an abundance of caution for both the residents and wedding-goers, Flaherty was seated inside and took in the ceremony through glass windows.

“I should probably cry because it means just the world to me that my granddaughter is such a loving person marrying a really special gentleman,” said Flaherty. “And I know that they’re going to be happy.”

Legendary Living, Integral Senior Living to partner on resort-style properties

Developer Legendary Living and Integral Senior Living (ISL) — one of the nation’s largest operators — have forged a strategic partnership and are embarking on a pipeline of resort-style projects.

“The relationship started out with a phone call,” Steve Griggs, EVP, director of real estate development for the Legendary Family of Companies, told Senior Housing News.

The first project for ISL and Legendary is a senior living campus in Montgomery, Alabama.

While a continuum-of-care campus is a well-established approach to senior living, Legendary Living Montgomery will be on a rental model and will not charge entrance fees or have a skilled nursing component, which are typical of traditional continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs).

Legendary Living, Integral Senior Living to build new Montgomery senior living campus

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Legendary Living and Integral Senior Living today unveiled a new strategic partnership to develop multiple best-in-class senior living projects, with the first being Legendary Living Montgomery, a resort-style, for-rent senior living campus located on Vaughn Road in East Montgomery.

Legendary Living Montgomery will be the second senior housing project for the Destin, Fla.-based developer. “Our mission is to provide for those who provided for us,” said Steve Griggs, EVP of Real Estate Development for Legendary. “We couldn’t have asked for better partners that are like-minded and have the desire, as we do, to create senior living environments that truly serve seniors and their families.”

Located off Vaughn Road in eastern Montgomery, the for-rent campus will offer 50 age-restricted cottages, 64 units for independent living and 73 units for assisted living, 24 of which will be dedicated to those with memory impairment. The community will be second to none in the Montgomery area in terms of luxury, security, safety and resort-caliber amenities, including cabanas and outdoor pool, multiple dining and bistro areas, art studio, library, internet cafe, auditorium and theater, game room, and chapel. Other outdoor amenities will feature an event lawn, fire pit, resident gardening area, water features, walking trails, putting green, bocce ball court, pickle ball court, yoga lawn, dog park and generously landscaped courtyards.

“Cementing our relationship with Legendary and bringing ISL’s culture to Montgomery and its terrific people was an extremely exciting opportunity for us,” said Collette Gray, Integral Senior Living’s president and CEO. “We’ll be offering a full slate of living options coupled with a stunning community to ensure our Montgomery residents truly are living their best lives.”

By partnering with the ISL family, Legendary Living Montgomery will offer its residents the full suite of industry-leading programs that ISL has crafted, including Elevate® dining, Vibrant Life® activities and Generations Memory Care.
Construction on Legendary Living Montgomery will begin this year. The community is anticipated to open its doors to Montgomery residents in late 2022.

Integral Senior Living featured in Senior Housing News’ look at the future of assisted living

Assisted living communities have been in lock-down mode since the Covid-19 pandemic struck the United States in mid-March — but this situation is slowly beginning to change.

Over the next weeks and months, assisted living buildings will adapt again in order to facilitate certain visitors and restart some activities. To regain a semblance of normalcy while still protecting the health and wellbeing of residents and staff, they must rely on creative and flexible operational approaches and new technologies.

Carlsbad, California-based Integral Senior Living (ISL) is examining “every policy and procedure and how we structured things before and changing to adapt to our new norm,” President and CEO Collette Gray told Senior Housing News.

Join us in standing up for seniors

To our Residents, Family Members, and Associates:

We recognize that these past several months have been trying. Social distancing has kept us apart from our loved ones as we all work together to flatten the curve and keep everyone healthy and safe. This has been especially difficult in senior living, where community is at the heart of everything we do – from shared meals, programs and activities, to simply being together with friends and loved ones in and around the community.

Our associates have always been the backbone of our community, and that is particularly true now, as direct care and support staff have risen to the occasion to care for our loved ones while meeting an ever-expanding list of obligations at home. But providing exceptional care has been an ongoing challenge as we face shortages of protective equipment and a lack of testing, and we all know how critically important these are to stop the spread of the virus.

That’s why we are asking everyone – residents, family and associates – to join us in a collective effort to send 500,000 letters to Congress sharing how senior living communities are coping with the virus and urging lawmakers to prioritize our communities for protective equipment and tests, and the resources we need to continue providing exceptional care. It’s critical that they hear the personal needs of our communities as they consider additional efforts to combat the virus, get things back to normal and make this feel like home again.

Writing to Congress takes less than a minute. Just click on the appropriate link below and you’ll find a pre-written letter that you can add to with a personal note on how your daily life has changed as a result of the virus. Then all you need to do is enter your contact information and click “send message.” Your message will be sent directly to your member of Congress and both of your senators.

Take Action:

On behalf of all of us at Integral Senior Living, I want to thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we work together during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
